DNA Policy

DNA Policy

Westrop Medical Practice – Did not attend (DNA) Policy

Introduction

When patients do not turn up for their appointment and do not advise the surgery that they wish to cancel their appointment (or cancel late), the effect of this is:

  • An increase in waiting time for appointments

  • Frustration for both staff and patients

  • A waste of resources

  • Increased waiting times

Policy

In the event that a patient does not attend (DNA) an appointment on the first occasion the non attendance will be recorded as a DNA and a reminder letter sent to the patient enclosing the DNA.

  • This applies in the event of a patient no show for a booked appointment with no contact with the surgery.

  • DNA’s are valid for one year

If a patient fails to attend another appointment, a further letter will be sent reminding them that a further recurrence within a year of the 1st DNA will result in them being invited to a meeting to discuss the reasons for the repeated non attendance.

If the patient fails to attend a third appointment, the patient will be invited in for a meeting to discuss missing appointments. If a patient declines to attend this meeting or continues to miss appointments following this meeting we may remove them from the practice list.

The practice will take into account mitigating medical circumstances prior to issuing letters under this policy
